A Home that Celebrates Family and Friends

Photography, drapery and custom furniture come together in this elegant home that celebrates family and friends coming together. This renovation was focused on upgrading the living areas, with the aim of investing in their family home as a well thought through alternative than relocating. Trait Interior Design and Décor was welcomed onto the project to furnish the home and bring to life the clients vision. We focused on the overall flow of the living areas including the entrance and hallway, informal lounge and open plan formal lounge and dining which leads out onto a glass façade enclosed patio.

The design for the home was to be family orientated yet soft and elegant for large gatherings of friends. We combined a variety neutral tones to create monochromatic harmony. Simple clean lines, custom feature furniture and beautiful textures were introduced to create a sense of drama and interest within the spaces. The entrance to the home welcomes you into a black and white photographic hallway that speaks of grandeur. The photographic prints, produced by Trait Interior Design and Décor in collaboration with Daniel Myles Photography, celebrate our indigenous fynbos of South Africa. This entrance leads you through to the informal lounge and kitchen that was to be kept simple and cosy where family can come together to relax and enjoy the warmth of the fire on a crisp winters evening.

Adjoining the informal lounge is the formal open plan lounge and dining room which becomes the piece de resistance to the entertaining area. The furniture was custom designed to ensure entertaining at its best. The large built-in deep blue dresser forms the focal point to this long room which visually expresses a combination of old world trim with new world minimalism. The dining room table and chairs were designed specifically for a luxurious dining experience with upholstered chairs and solid oak dining table with central hatched base. This room joins the formal lounge with an extra length corner sofa, again speaking of the old world English grandeur and cosy armchairs with a modern twist.

And on those beautiful warm South African summer evenings an enclosed glass patio opens onto the landscaped garden and pool. This area truly brings the outdoors inside, whilst you relax on large sofas around the braai and dine at the 12 seater dining table. The idea of this area is to be

able to braai and entertain ‘outside’ all year round!

This was such an exciting project to have been involved in and we love every element of it. It has transformed their house into a home. It is not only elegant and sleek but also functional to the clients needs.
